TUNING THE NISSAN SR20DET (S14a)

A fresh 55,000-mile engine, a fresh GT2871R turbo, a fresh actuator, and a freshly prepped car — this Nissan SR20DET S14a delivered brilliantly. The power it produced on minimal boost was impressive.

In fact, many cars struggle to make the power this engine produced at such low boost levels. A fresh engine with good compression and a quality build simply responds better to tuning. This is a prime example of why engine condition matters so much before any tune session.

Part of us wanted to push the boost to 1.6 or 1.7 bar to see what it was capable of. But for this session, the current setup was more than enough. We completed the custom ECU tune within a couple of hours and the S14a left in great shape. When it returns for more boost, it will be a very capable car indeed.
