TUNING THE NISSAN RB25DET (R34)

Great to see this Nissan RB25DET R34 GTT auto back on the dyno. The factory turbo had been upgraded to a GReddy 18G, so a retune was needed to suit the new hardware.

Boost had to be kept conservative on this occasion due to the absence of a gearbox oil cooler. The automatic gearbox and torque converter also limit how hard the engine can be pushed. Even so, it was clear from the initial tuning that the GReddy 18G was producing strong early torque.

If this R34 GTT were fitted with a manual gearbox, the FCTuningNistune ECU tune could safely target 380 to 400 horsepower. The automatic transmission genuinely robs these engines of wheel horsepower. A manual conversion would transform this car. Perhaps a modification for the future — we look forward to it.
