TUNING THE JDM TOYOTA ALTEZZA 3S-GE Beams DUAL VVT-i Engine ’98+

Always nice to see something different at the FC Tuning workshop. This time it was a turbocharged JDM four-door saloon — the Toyota Altezza with the 3S-GE Beams Dual VVT-i engine featuring a GReddy bolt-on TD04 turbo kit with stock actuator.

The engine came in running 0.7 bar of boost with poor fuel economy and around 213hp. Not bad for a stock setup, but there was clearly more to be found with a proper custom tune.

After about an hour on the dyno, the Altezza left with significantly more power. The difference before and after was night and day according to the owner. A custom ECU tune combined with the right boost and fuelling corrections transformed this car.

The JDM Altezza is an underrated performance platform. The 3S-GE Beams engine is smooth and responsive, and the GReddy turbo kit complements it very well. A great result for a unique build.
