Toyota Supra 2JZ-GTE – GT35R Auto Setup Making Serious Numbers

This auto-box Toyota Supra rolled in for calibration on its fresh GT35R setup — and even on a conservative 1.1 bar base map on the AEM ECU, the results were exactly what you expect from a healthy 2JZ-GTE: effortless power and mountains of torque.

? Current Output (Base Map @ 1.1 bar, GT35R)

  • 492 hp (engine)
  • 469 ft-lbs torque
  • 416 whp
  • Automatic transmission
  • GT35R turbocharger

For a baseline pull, the setup is already delivering strong, clean numbers with plenty of headroom left. The GT35R pairs beautifully with the 2JZ — quick enough to keep the auto box happy, yet big enough to push well into the 600+ range once the rest of the build catches up.

? What’s Next?

The owner’s booked in for the next round of upgrades:

  • 6-speed gearbox conversion
  • Full remap for 2.0 bar target
  • Revised boost control & ignition strategy
  • Fueling tweaks to support the higher load

Once the manual swap is in and we push toward the 2-bar setup, expect a completely different animal. The GT35R wakes up hard above 1.5 bar — and paired with a proper 6-speed, this car is going to transform from “quick” to “seriously fast.”

? Final Thoughts

Even in base-map form, this Supra proves once again why the 2JZ-GTE remains the gold standard for tuning. Smooth, predictable power delivery, instant response once boosted, and the headroom to go from sensible to savage with just a few hardware tweaks.

Stay tuned — the next visit with the 6-speed and high-boost calibration will be a whole different story.
